FOS was established in 2018 by Oman Educational Services and is operated by Majd Group. The school is located in Muscat and offers Early Years to KG1–12 education for both Omani and expatriate students. FOS is an IB School offering the PYP and MYP. The school integrates teaching and learning methodologies inspired by Finland. FOS shares a campus with the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech / RWTH Aachen), forming part of a broader hub of educational expertise.

Job description

The Head of Finland Oman School is responsible for leading the school in accordance with its mission, vision, and strategic objectives. This role involves overseeing the academic and the management team and ensuring that the school meets both the educational standards set by the Ministry of Education in Oman and implementing IB curriculum in alignment with the Finnish methodology in education, while considering Omani cultural values. The Head will ensure that policies are established and implemented effectively, support the operation’s team and executive management, and be involved in HR practices such as recruitment and maintain a high standard of staff’s excellent performance.

Key responsibilities and tasks

Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Lead the school in line with its mission, vision, and strategic goals, ensuring that the implementation of the IB curriculum aligns with the school’s educational objectives
  • Regularly review, evaluate and adjust the school’s strategy to ensure the effective delivery of the IB curriculum and to meet changing educational trends and community need

Policy and Guidelines Development

  • Establish and implement relevant policies and guidelines that ensure the smooth and effective running of the school
  • Ensure compliance with the Ministry of Education in Oman regulations and other legal requirements

Curriculum Development and Implementation

  • Oversee the development and implementation of an IB curriculum that meets the academic standards of the Ministry of Education in Oman
  • Ensure the integration of Omani values within the IB framework, aligning the curriculum with both international standards and local cultural criteria

Values and Principles

  • Ensure the daily practice of the school’s core values and principles across all levels of the institution
  • Foster a school culture that reflects the values of integrity, inclusivity, respect, and academic excellence

Leadership and Support of Executive Management

  • Provide guidance and support to the executive management team, helping them achieve the school’s goals
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to senior leadership, enabling effective decision-making and problem-solving

Performance Management and KPIs

  • Set performance KPIs for the School Management team, ensuring clear expectations and accountability
  • Supervise and assess the performance of all subordinates, offering feedback, development plans, and opportunities for growth

Operational Management

  • Manage the day-to-day academic operations of the school to ensure the smooth running and sustainability of the institution
  • Actively monitor and resolve any academic operational issues, ensuring a positive environment for both students and staff

Financial Coordination

  • Collaborate with the Operation and Finance in preparing the annual budget
  • Execute the approved budget, ensuring that financial targets, including income and expenditure, are met
  • Identifying and addressing any areas of concern to maintain financial stability

HR and Staff’s Development

  • In collaboration with HR, develop recruitment plans to attract and retain qualified staff that align with the school’s strategic needs and the implementation of the IB curriculum
  • Work with HR to review and recommend candidates for key academic positions, ensuring that new hires meet the school’s requirements and uphold its values
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure that staff development initiatives are in place, fostering continuous professional growth and enhancing staff expertise in delivering the IB curriculum effectively

Cultural and Behavioural Alignment

  • Ensure that all school staff’s practices and behaviours align with the school’s image and the values of Omani culture
  • Enhance an environment of mutual respect, cultural awareness, and professional conduct among all staff members

Required qualifications

  • Teacher qualification from a Finnish university
  • Principal qualification
  • Minimum six years of experience as a teacher and 4 years of experience as a Head of School, School Principal or Deputy Head of School, School Vice Principal
  • Experience in IB programme is preferable
  • Qualification transcript is mandatory
  • All experiences and documents must be in English and officially attested
  • IELTS certificate of 6 or above

Successful candidates should

  • Have flexibility and/or experience in adopting IB programme
  • Have a passion for education and teaching
  • Have solid working proficiency in English: IELTS certificate at 6 score required for non-native English-speaking candidates
  • Be a hard-working developer
  • Be a confident facilitator of age-appropriate active learning
  • Have good stress management skills
  • Be open-minded to diverse cultures and new experiences
