Finnish International Kindergarten in Bahrain

EduCluster Finland, part of the University of Jyväskylä Group has entered into an operator agreement to introduce Finnish International Kindergartens in Bahrain.

In a significant milestone for Bahrain’s educational landscape, EduCluster Finland is delighted to announce the signing of its first kindergarten in Bahrain. This new venture marks a groundbreaking initiative to bring the renowned Finnish early education model to the Kingdom. The kindergarten will offer holistic child development, designed to cultivate critical thinking, social skills, and a love for learning from an early age. By blending Finnish pedagogical principles with a strong Finnish teaching team on-site co-teaching with an experienced local team infusing Bahraini cultural values, we aim to create a truly enriching educational experience for children in Bahrain.

Kindergarten is opening its doors for the first time in early 2025, offering Finnish pedagogical approach in early education. The Finnish Curriculum for early education and pre-primary is at the heart of the kindergarten’s operations, with best practices from Finland merged with local requirements. The kindergarten will host age groups from nursery to pre-primary, ages 2 to 5, and attract both local and international children. The kindergarten is designed to start with younger childrens’ groups and gradually expand year by year. The working language is English.

Kindergarten is owned by S Eleven Educational and will be operated by EduCluster Finland. The Kindergarten is located in Al-Riffa, Bahrain.

We are now looking for a Kindergarten Academic Principal and Kindergarten Teachers who are skilled and passionate early childhood education professionals and eager to be part of this exciting new venture.

As Academic Principal, you will guide the team in delivering a high-quality educational experience by integrating Finnish pedagogical principles with local cultural values. You will lead the development and implementation of the curriculum while managing the overall leadership and daily operations of kindergarten. This is a newly created position, as kindergarten is launching its operations for the first time. The Academic Principal will oversee all aspects of the operations. Together with EduCluster Finland and local team, you will build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, educators, and staff to achieve the best outcomes for both families and children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management – Lead the Kindergarten daily operations: including managing staff, overseeing the enrollment process and ensuring the delivery of high-quality education based on the Finnish approach.
  • Curriculum Oversight – Ensure the implementation of the play-based, holistic curriculum and pedagogy of the Finnish International Kindergarten and promote the overall development of children. Provide curriculum direction, guidance, and support to local educators for effective pedagogical planning.
  • Staff development – Act as a supervisor for designated staff members. Foster their professional growth and ensuring a high standard of teaching and care. Provide ongoing feedback and performance evaluations. Build the knowledge, skills, and professionalism of local educators.
  • Parent and Community relations – Maintain positive relationships with parents, caregivers, and the community. Guide families in understanding play-based learning and the importance of early childhood education within the educational continuum.
  • Marketing and Networking – Marketing the services of kindergarten and customer acquisition. Represent the kindergarten in networking events to create and maintain public relationships.
  • Compliance and Safety – Ensure the kindergarten complies with all relevant local regulations, including health and safety standards. Implement policies and procedures that maintain a safe and nurturing environment for children.
  • Quality Assurance – Monitor and evaluate the quality of the kindergarten’s educational programmes and services, ensuring continuous improvement and alignment with both Finnish and local early education standards.
  • Strategic Planning – Develop and implement strategies for the growth and development of the kindergarten, including expanding enrollment, enhancing educational offerings, and improving operational efficiency.
  • Budget and Financial Management – Manage the centre’s budget: including overseeing expenditures, maintaining enrollment records, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the kindergarten.

Qualifications and competencies:

  • Finnish University degree in Education or a diploma in Early Childhood Education with at least two years of previous experience in the field after graduation.
  • Holistic approach to Finnish early education. Previous experience in a leadership role within early childhood education.
  • Strong understanding of Finnish early education philosophy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with staff, parents, and the wider community.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Fluent English working skills.

Preferred other skills:

  • The ability to lead educators from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of expertise
  • An adaptive and resilient mindset, with the ability to take responsibility in uncertain or changing situations
  • International or multicultural work experience as an educator is an advantage

As the Kindergarten Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality early childhood education based on the Finnish approach, which emphasises a play-based, child-centered pedagogy. Together with the local team, you will build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, educators, and staff to achieve the best outcomes for both families and children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement, and assess daily activities and lessons that align with the Finnish early childhood education model, focusing on holistic development and child-led learning.
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment that promotes curiosity, creativity, and the joy of learning for children aged 2 to 5.
  • Guide and support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development through a variety of engaging and age-appropriate activities.
  • Act as a mentor teacher to your local and international colleagues and develop kindergarten operations in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, providing updates on children’s progress, well-being, and learning milestones.
  • Foster positive relationships with children, families, and the broader community, maintaining open lines of communication and encouraging parental involvement.

Qualifications and competencies:

  • Finnish University Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience as a kindergarten teacher, with knowledge of the Finnish early childhood education system and pedagogy.
  • Fluent English working skills.
  • Flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work in an international, multicultural environment.
  • Passion for working with young children and a commitment to fostering their development and well-being.

  • International experience
  • Experience in guiding and mentoring other educators is an asset
