Enabling professional development through coaching and training programmes

What?

TRAINING deals with short- to long-term training programmes for education professionals on all levels of the education system. We believe that high calibre teachers are one of the most important factors in enabling high-quality teaching and learning, and one obvious proof of that is the Finnish basic education which is recognised as one of the best in the world mostly due to the quality of Finnish teacher education. We offer unique and tailor-made skills-building processes focusing on knowledge and practical skills for improving the performance of teachers in all levels of education. The process makes the fundamentals of excellence of Finnish teacher education available globally.

How?

The goal of the PD programmes is to offer pedagogical competence up-skilling for participating teachers. The foundation of the PD programme is in Finnish teacher pedagogical studies. It involves hands-on development of generic features of this proven model, fusion of Finnish teaching and learning practices with the local experience and knowledge, and emergent school-based competences-building. Aside the pedagogy, special themes and substance skills can be built into the training processes. The focus can be on special approaches, such as content and language integrated learning, ICT and 21st century skills in education, inclusive education, vocational qualification expertise or on other needed areas.

The programme emphasises pedagogical issues in the school environment and are tailored according to the special features of the culture, context and local education policy. All the knowledge and learning processes of the programme focus on increasing the individual capacity of educators to improve the performance of the whole school community.

The modes of delivery can be involve lectures, workshops, peer teaching, mentoring and tutoring sessions, observation, intensive periods and/or study visits.

Possible tools and modes of collaboration for the training process:

  • Short-term PD programmes delivered either in local settings or in Finland
  • Residential training processes in Finland (up to 3 months)
  • On-the-job embedded long-term studies (e.g. 60 ECTS) leading to a diploma certificate awarded by a Finnish university
